EcoChicCycling - Green on the Go website is under construction
EcoChicCyling's logo is at the artist table being developed. It is really cute and being trademarked.
- Competitor: Dawn D'Onofrio, a new leader in start up!
- Who are you? I am a true start up entrepreneur as this is my first venture. I am a seamstress/designer, women/mother, a cyclist , a professional business person doing this soley on my own.
- What are you doing? Offering industry standard certified "green", eco-friendly cycling apparel, accessories, related products for women of style on the move.
- As we are aware, there is a growing movement towards environmental awareness driven by strong consumer demand for eco-friendly products in every aspect and sector of the economy on a global level.
- This eco market is wide open with seemingly endless opportunity for unlimited growth and financial gain.
- The 'green' movement was a 250 billion dollar business in 2007 w/1 in 5 buying green and 35.1% of that business in the apparel and accessories markets.
- My passion is cycling which is generally considered as a community of people whose mentality, culture and focus is typically geared towards promoting environmental responsibility, awareness and health.
- In an industry "geared" towards enjoying the environment and offering alternative transportation, there is a lack of earth friendly items to complete the cycle for the cyclist/biking enthusiast in a world and segment that appreciates this concept. The chain is broken in the model for environmental responsibility.
- I offer clothing and related items of a sustainable nature that are eco-friendly and of partially organic and recycled components - many certified by the developing industry standard for "green". The items offer function and performance and the wearer a choice and way to do their part in the growing demands of environmental preservation and help offset the negative impact we have on the environment.
- The women's market is growing 38% a year nationally and is an underrepresented market that's ripe with opportunity.
- My goal is to fill this gap and supply this ready and waiting niche market of women's
cycling w/alternative and sustainable solutions that will carry over into our daily lives and family w/eco-friendly apparel, accessories and components for cycling be at as a sport, recreational activity or alternative means of transportation.
- The products will complete the eco-friendly chain by being green certified according to industry standards from the manufacturing stage to disposal of the product.
I am also working on the re-development and patent of several cycling accessories to be eco-friendly for commuter cyclists.
- Funding - I am working to make the $ to support this fabulous and relevant and needed business. In the meantime, I am doing it bit by bit as I can to make it go but it is growing at such a phenomenal rate already in concept, and the need and market is there NOW to capitalize on. Any interest can e-mail me at computehappy@hotmail.com to discuss business arrangements.
- Thank you and vote responsibly! Vote green, vote for the environment. Heck - Just give me your wooden nickel and I will turn it into real $$$$!
- Thank you everyone and thank you Sun, sponsors and panel members for such a great couple days!

No filing necessary, unless you like everything in folders -- because all you have to do to retrieve the item later is to search for it under one of your tags. You can publish your own RSS feeds, begin a conversation about an article you've read, share your Flickr files automatically and even send things to your Facebook contacts, which are listed in foldier. foldier uses live links, not synchronization, and makes your data portable without removing it from its home.
foldier, currently in beta, is located in San Francisco.

We've Got Mail!
- MarkMail is the archiving and discovery tool for public and private email.
- MarkMail.org is the archive of record for open, public mailing lists.
Email Hell
Email remains the dominant mechanism for digital communication. Alas, existing email tools suck -- they were designed and built with the mistaken beliefs that individuals don't have many emails and that the organizations' big, bureaucratic information systems (that people are forced to use) might be useful.
The reality is that there is so much information and it moves so quickly that standard information management systems are not able to keep up with the needs of individual users and organizations.
People want answers to deeper questions such as:
- Who has been talking about XYZ recently and over time?
- Exploring the many business plans I received in the last year that deal with social networks in continental Europe?
- What's Joe's latest contact information?
- Find the latest version of the contract with Acme (that's locked away in a .doc attachment)?
Quickly being able to find and explore the vast sea of information that's currently locked away inside our email is the key value that MarkMail delivers.
Who are we?
MarkMail is the creation of Jason Hunter, Ryan Grimm, Ian Small, and John Mitchell inside Mark Logic Corporation.
MyLocator.com
- Competitor: Danny McGowan
- Years in business: 5
- MyLocator.com promises to radically alter the search engine space by cutting out middle men like Google and Yahoo. The Mylocator engine works by classifying over 1300 domain name categories and allowing searchers to first pick the category and then what they are looking for. The outcome should be more accurate search results from an engine that puts searchers directly in contact with what they are looking via vertical searching. To put it simply, Google and others search by scouring the internet for keywords that users search for and then spits out the results. Mylocator allows people to search through categories of domains that are networked bringing better results faster. The potential for increased revenues due to better targeted search results could also be enormous.

OrcaTec LLC
- Competitor: Autonomy
- OrcaTec LLC provides the information infrastructure that Web 2.0 applications live on. The radical approach of the OrcaTec system is to exploit directly unstructured information rather than force all information into a fixed structure. It improves on standard database approaches by recognizing that human cognition is dynamic, creative, and contextual and so should be the technology that serves it. The OrcaTec Information Retrieval Toolkit provides the intelligence to search conceptually without the need for detailed taxonomies or ontologies. Rather than depending on taxonomies or ontologies, which are always a struggle to maintain, the patent-pending system learns the meanings of words from the documents that it reads and exploits that meaning to amplify and support human cognition.
A few applications of this approach include:
- Agents that follow news feeds and alert the user to interesting news based on past interests.
- Search for semantically related information, rather than just key words or taxonomic entries.
- Matching ads with web content.
- Identifying experts or people with specific interests in a social network.
- Cross-language search.
- Categorizing emails or other documents.
- Plagiarism and author recognition.
- Music recommendation.
- Knowledge management.
One client application was produced in cooperation with Owl Insight for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and is being considered for NASA Software of the Year. This knowledge management system included Best Practice and other NASA Engineering documents in a variety of media, including video, audio, HTML, and Microsoft Office formats. All of these were made intelligently searchable, using the OrcaTec Information Retrieval Toolkit. The system automatically played video and audio files while displaying a transcript. Because of the intelligence imparted by the OrcaTec toolkit, it could find documents that were related to the query, even if the query word did not appear in the document. A search for the word "Gauss" for example, also returned documents that were about magnetic fields, even though this word did not appear in them--all without any kind of taxonomy, thesaurus, or ontology.
The main JPL search screen showing a concept search for the word "Gauss," a measure of magnetic strength.
The summary search result screen showing the result of a concept search for the word "Gauss." The bottom two documents do not contain this term, but are still about magnetic fields.
The summary search result screen showing the result of a search for the word "Titan," showing the playback of a video document.

- The OrcaTec approach is based on 17 years of research on dolphin biosonar and 10+ years working in unstructured information management and retrieval. OrcaTec provides the tools needed to create killer applications.

MEDgle
- Competitor: MEDgle
- What could be better than helping everybody find better health? Towards that, we founded MEDgle in Sept 2006. MEDgle seeks to provide global health care transparency by guiding consumers to relevant diagnoses, physicians, services and health products through a personalized medical search. To increase global impact, MEDgle is available in seven different languages including simplified and traditional Chinese.
Universal access to a virtual doctor and its potential positive impact has been discussed and written about for years. In addition for over the last 30 years, automated diagnostics has been a focus and interest of artificial intelligence. MEDgle is an automated diagnostic expert system and search that is accessible to general consumers. The data structure, approach, and algorithms behind MEDgle are a synthesis of probabilistic belief networks and search. We believe the level of personalized results and range of results is perhaps the best in the world to date.
Especially with health, personalization is key to make the results relevant and useful. When doing a symptom search, the user wants potential diagnoses not web pages. Also, leveraging the expert system, MEDgle provides different results depending on the consumer’s age, gender and lifestyle factors such as smoking. MEDgle takes into account who you are in addition to what you are searching for.
Over the course of the last year, we have received a number of emails from consumers stating the usefulness of MEDgle in helping them determine their conditions and seek appropriate care earlier than would have otherwise been the case. For example, we have helped a person consider hypothyroidism as a cause of his symptoms, another individual to consider plantar fasciitis as a cause of his foot pain, and another think of atrial septal defect for a constellation of symptoms that had gone undiagnosed for thirty years. The following is typical of the many emails we have received:
“This is so awesome. i had a condition 2 years ago that took months to identify and was misdiagnosed several times. MEDgle would have gotten us there in about 30 seconds! “
The continuing motivation we get from just one of these stories is very valuable. MEDgle has many benefits for the consumer: The objectivity (computerized) yet personalization of the search (by age, gender and lifestyle options) enables the consumer to search in privacy, without embarrassment. The results can be communicated with his/her physician through fax or email, thus enhancing the role of the consumer as a partner with the health care provider and ensuring a more meaningful dialogue.
- Funding: Currently we are bootstrapped.
