Title: What Startups need to know about Open Source
Discussion Leader: Danese Cooper
Description: This topic came up during my panel at OSCON 2006 and I gather there are a good number of startups that have had problems getting acquired or managing their FOSS strategy because they didn't know everything they needed to know when they were starting out. After 8 years in the FOSS business, working on OSI Board and for some both Sun and Intel (who have lots of lawyers) I know as much as anyone about this topic....Fly me!!
Is this something that would be useful?
Sure. Another interesting and relevant topic involves commercialization of open source software. What are the possible business models? Where are the best opportunities? How do you avoid making any fatal errors early in the startup's lifetime? I'd be glad to contribute to this discussion. -- Tony Wasserman
