How to create a profile page for yourself on this Wiki
Sharing information about yourself
Although it's not required, it's considered good camp and unconference etiquette to let others know you're coming to a camp or unconference and to tell other attendees about yourself. So, hHere's a great opportunity to learn from the mistakes we made when first using a MediaWiki-based wiki to create a personal profile page that others will see. A lot of people (like us) instinctively think "hey, it's a wiki... so I'll create a new page and name it CamelCase style with my first and last name." But actually, there's a better way. When you create a user ID on a MediaWiki-based wiki, it creates a profile page for you. So, all you have to do is go to that page and enter any profile information that you'd like to publish about yourself.
Personal Profile and Wiki Logins are Optional
Bear in mind that this is a completely optional process. To view the Startup Camp wiki, you are not obligated to create a login ID or a profile page. To edit the wiki (in other words, to change content on existing pages or to create new pages), you must have an ID. However, even after creating an ID, you are not required to create a profile page about yourself. Profile pages are viewable to the public on the World Wide Web. When creating a personal profile page, be sure not to include anything you don't want made public. Most people include information about their interest in the community that's relevant to the wiki (in this case: the startup community) and some people get very elaborate, listing hobbies, photos, etc.
Ready, Set, Publish profile
The steps are pretty straightforward. If you don't yet have an ID on this wiki yet and you want the ability to create or edit pages, then you should create one. Click here for the instructions on how to create an account (but remember to come back to this page once you're done!).
Once you're logged in, you'll notice near the top of the screen a tiny little avatar of a person with your user ID directly to the right of it (see below). Now, just click on your user ID.
and it will take you to the page that the Startup Camp MediaWiki has already created just for you.
You should see a link on that page that says "Edit this Page"
Click that and start adding information about yourself. Not familiar with how to use wikitext? Check out our guide to starting a new page as well as our Wikitext Guide. Also, once you save your profile page, be sure to copy and paste its URL into your Startup Camp registration form (if the reason you're here is that you followed the tip on that form to create this page).
